HP partners with Molpack to bring leading edge molded fiber advanced tooling solution to Latin America. Molpack is utilizing HP’s molded fiber technology to create molded fiber fruit trays and other packaging from recycled paper. Regional manager at Molpack Juan Lozada noted that the company had struggled with producing biodegradable packaging in the past due to the harsh climate and humidity in the Central American region. Nevertheless, Lozada expressed his enthusiasm in incorporating HP’s technology and noted that the molded fiber advanced tooling solution allowed them to leverage computer modeling and design and helped the company overcome their past challenges. HP’s Molded Fiber Advanced Tooling technology provides fiber molding manufacturers like Molpack with a tooling solution that can optimize processes, produce higher performance products, increase customization with logos and textures, and enhance sustainability by reducing carbon footprint during the tooling phase of production. Biodegradable Water Bottles to Combat Plastic Waste in India
Excessive plastic waste and inadequate recycling infrastructure led researchers in India to develop a blow molded water bottle that is 100% biodegradable down to the cap and label. The innovation came as a result of rigorous research and development efforts undertaken at the Mysuru-based Defense Food Research Laboratory. The water bottle is made out of bio-based material poly lactic acid (PLA) and it is fabricated using an injection blow molding process. The bottle can hold up to 250ml of water and it boasts similar strength and durability properties to that of PET bottles. Researchers mentioned that the bottle is compostable as per ISO 17088-2021 and IS 17899 T: 2022 Standards. The new biodegradable bottle is a sustainable solution that will help minimize the dependency on non-renewable materials and it will also help in reducing environmental damages from plastic waste.
