Anheuser-Busch InBev Looks at Digital Solutions for its Bottles
Anheuser-Busch InBev Looks at Digital Solutions for its Bottles
Anheuser-Busch InBev was at AIPIA World Congress on the lookout for smart digital solutions for its drink bottles. Several innovative solutions caught AB InBev’s eye, among them was Alitheon’s FeaturePrint technology and AlmaScience’s cellulose datamatrix and semi-serialization solution. Alitheon’s submission featured computer vision without marking and semi-serialization for consumer rewards. The technology uses microscopic naturally occurring variations to identify unique items. It also uses an optical AI that determines the authenticity of an object such as a Corona bottlecap. Alitheon pitched the technology as a way to stop counterfeits and enable tracking and tracing, all with a simple photo from a standard camera. On the other hand AB InBev Praised Almascience for its sustainable cellulose datamatrix and semi-serialization solution. The technology uses a sensitive cellulose ink coating on the bottle combined with laser engraving to achieve high-fidelity images that can be easily read by smart phones or vision systems all while remaining mostly invisible to the consumer. Krones AG Will Acquire Swiss Based Netstal Maschinen AG from KraussMaffei
German packaging and bottling line systems manufacturer Krones AG will finalize its agreement to acquire Swiss based Netstal Maschinen AG from KraussMaffei in Germany. The agreement to be finalized in February will bolster Krones’ Filling and Packaging Technology business unit. Netstal is a supplier of injection machines for the molding of PET preforms and caps for the beverage industry as well as other applications such as thin wall packaging and medical applications. With the acquisition Krones adds preform and closure molding to its list of capabilities in PET container stretch blow molding, packaging, and filling. Additionally, Krones is looking to employ a strategy to diversify into other markets such as food, home/personal care, and medical/pharma and this plan will be greatly supported by this new acquisition. Besides this most recent acquisition agreement Krones has taken other steps previously to support diversification. This includes other acquisitions such as that of MHT Mold & Hotrunner Technology of Germany and a 70% stake in Integrated Plastics Systems AG of Switzerland. Learn more about this topic here.
